He has served on the Technical Advisory Board for Cisco Systems, Chaired the Technology Committee for the Mass. Biotechnology Council, and is currently a board member for numerous start-up ventures. Don has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors, has spoken at industry events and executive gatherings, been a radio show guest, and held Top Secret clearances with the US Government.

Romie was one of the original senior management team members at CVC, which morphed into what is now known as AOL. He was the principal architect behind the acquisition and integration of G-Tel Communications by Colonial Data. He also holds several design patents and applications for a number of consumer products.
